Join our private day trip to Larache from Tangier and discover the rich history and unique culture of this less-explored city. Larache is just an hour's drive from Tangier on the highway, but once you enter the Medina, you'll be transported to an unspoiled world, as it remains relatively untouched by tourism.
With a history dating back to the Carthaginian and Roman eras, Larache served as the major Moroccan port in the 15th century. Compared to other touristy Moroccan destinations, you'll be pleasantly surprised at how virgin Larache is, with few international tourists to be found, making it a perfect place to immerse yourself in Moroccan culture.
What to expect:
Upon arrival at Tangier Ville Port or pickup from your Tangier accommodation, you'll meet your English-speaking chauffeur/driver and embark on your day trip to Larache. Take a short break to explore the tranquil and artistic city of Asilah, with its beautifully painted streets. Every year, artists from around the world come to Asilah to leave their artistic mark on the walls of the Medina.
Next, head to Larache and visit the archaeological site of Lixus, which dates back to the Carthaginian and Roman eras. Portuguese documents from the 15th century mention Larache as the major port of Morocco. Begin your exploration at the lively Plaza de la Libera, which is lined with many terraced cafes. Then, enter the old Medina through the Medina Gate, which is marked by Andalusian architecture and explore the souks, which are divided into sections.
After lunch, drive back to Tangier on the highway.
